Tiger - Quilled Picture Landscape

Phew !!! At last my quilled landscape styled tiger  is complete.  I love quilling pictures more than floral designs. I am very new to quilling but I think this came out rather well. Specially the ferocious  look makes him look rather frightening.
I am glad I managed to get the eyes to look natural. If you like my work please leave your comments.

Parrot - Quilled Picture Landscape

I quilled this parrot like a quilled landscape or quilled picture from an image of it. I used loose scrolls made from A4 length 3mm strips.I find it is important to get the eyes right to get a realistic look. I am quite impressed with the fact that it has a bit of depth.

I tried to arrange the quill to follow the natural curves of the bird to get the depth. I clipped the edge of the quilled marque to get the feathery effect .
For the eyes, I made a coil and allowed it to relax a wee bit before gumming it. Then I made an itsy white tight scroll and fattened it into a 1/4 moon and inserted it off center to get the highlight effect.

I made the palm by looking at one in my garden ( I live in the tropics)by pasting between 10 to 12, 1/4 A4 strips to form a 3/4 circle.  I scored lines on each leaf strand by placing it on a semi hard surface and then drawing lines with a blunt instrument. If the surface is hard the lines won't get embossed and if the surface is too soft the paper will tear.

I had made the parrot and branch on a cut-out so I was able paste the parrot on top of the palms .

On hind sight , I feel I should have stuck a few tight scrolls and mounted the parrot on top the give a nice 3D effect  to the scene.

Quilled Butterflies and Flowers

I quilled these 3d butterflies using a printout of the butterfly and followed the colors as closely as possible. Most parts of the wings are  made of loose coils except for the edge of the wings where I have used the beehive technique.

Quilled Flower and Humming Bird

I loved the piece quilled 3d flowers and humming bird Inna had created so I thought the best way to learn is to try and see how close I could get. And this is the results. Well I'm proud of this coz I had been quilling for just over a week when I did this piece. Please check out Inna's work here.

I am all thumbs and keep getting bathed in glue!! Begginers please be careful with the glue and apply very little and use a toothpick!! Your fingers get stuck to the paper quicker than the card your sticking it on!!

Another problem I had was  the length of the strip!! My flowers were all rather too big. I also had problems with the fringed flowers. Found it difficult to get the petals spread evenly and the coil kept comming loose as I had not coiled it tight!!. But I am satisfied with the end result.

I learned the hard way by getting into the deep end!! Anyway, fringed flowers come out better if you keep the coil tight and glue it now and then when rolling!! ( at least for me it does). And open the flower up in an orderly fashion without being impatient like me!! Arrange the petals evenly when opening and make sure you stick the different sized fringes so there is an even bottom.

I you paste the fringe facing down and thurn it up after quilling you will get the curled-in   look which look really cool for flower centres.

Crochet Videos - Independent Producer

Crochet has made a big comeback on the Internet in the past few years. There are some thoughts I want to share with those of you who earn revenue on your crochet, knitting and crafting videos.  This will apply to sites other than YouTube as well.

I know many of you participate in account monetization on YouTube or have gone on to become a full partner. The type of videos we make take a lot of time to produce.   I have been approached by a few 3rd party sites who want to purchase my videos for a flat fee and then upload them on their YouTube channel.  Some have said the future videos I make can only go on their channel.  Others have requirements that make the videos look like spam.  They can embed and link our existing videos on their sites if they are really interested in our existing content.

I have done many Google searches for professional video production. It starts from $1000-$10,000 on up for a 15-30 second commercial video.

Something else that is often looked over is our crochet expertise. I  have over 28 years of experience with crochet.  What we have is two fold.  The knowledge of crochet and producing a professional quality crochet video, that can be in production for several months.

These 3rd parties want to redirect traffic to their channel or site but not pay what the videos are worth. These offers are nothing but a bad deal.   When someone makes an offer to pay you a monetary value up front, they know it will go much further. Most likely tens of thousands of times more than their measly offer of $15-$50 dollars for a video.

One day some of you may get real offers.  Right now I have not seen anything legitimate.

My suggestion! Stay Independent, you don't need a middle man to do what you are already doing.

Please share your experiences and questions you may have.

Butterfly Tree - Quilled Butterfly & Flowers

I created this piece from the various experimental flowers that I quilled. The poppy was damaged by one of my cats!!. I made the poppy from Inna's very comprehensive tutorial. Her site is my favorite and I love her work. It is a "must visit" site for all who want to learn from one of the best!!

The Monarch Butterfly is my own. I downloaded a picture of a monarch and followed it as faithfully as possible. I used loose scrolls and tight scrolls. Outlined the scrolls in black and stuck them together on top of a printout of a monarch. Did not past it to the paper since I wanted a 3D butterfly.

I made the body with a 1cm strip (A4) and shaped it to form the body. The head is made from tight scrolls. I cut the paper to narrow towards on end and quilled tight scrolls stating with the broad end. This made the sides pop out a bit like eyes.

For the top of the wings I quilled a black loose scroll, shaped it and then made three very small white tight scrolls, squashed them and stuck them inside the outermost layer. I am quite proud of this butterfly!! looks quite good for a beginner!! even though I say so myself!!

Quilled Candle Stand

My very first experiment with quilling 3d flowers was to dress up a broken clay lamp.I used printing paper cut by hand to make the quilled rose which forms the centre of the flower. I learnt to make the rose from a youtube video and for the petals I used eccentric circles which I did by hand. The leaves I made by using the the husking method.

Baby Booby Beanie - Dedicated to Breastfeeding Moms

This is dedicated to all breastfeeding moms. I breastfed all my babies in public 29 years ago.    Women should not be forced or shamed in to a dirty bathroom to feed their babies.   When baby is hungry, feed your baby. Don't let someone else make you feel it is wrong. The divine plan for human nature set it to breastfeed your baby.  Shame on the people who take what is natural and turn it in to something else.

Row 4: Work 3 stitch combo across. Work in the stitch close to the edge when you get to the final combo, which is working in the decrease made on row 3.
